Indigenous employment
The aim of the following policies and initiatives is to help Indigenous jobseekers get into the workforce, and gain vocational qualifications that will improve their chances of getting highly skilled work.
- Indigenous Employment Policy for Queensland Government Building and Civil Construction Projects (20% Policy)
This policy requires that 20% of the employment hours on government construction projects in designated Indigenous communities and shires be dedicated to employing and training local Indigenous people. Half of these hours must be as accredited training. - Positive Dreaming, Solid Futures
Indigenous Employment and Training Strategy 2008–2011 - Indigenous Employment and Training Managers
These managers develop and implement strategies to support the 20% Policy and other local economic development programs for Indigenous people. - Indigenous Employment and Training Support Officers
These officers are employed to help indigenous apprentices, trainees and vocational students complete their training and stay in the workforce as well as provide them with culturally appropriate, one-to-one mentoring and support. - Wal-Meta joins Project 2800
The Wal-Meta Recruitment Services team has become a Project 2800 facilitation service within the Public Service Commission.
