The department employs a minimum of 12 Indigenous Employment and Training Managers (IETMs) to help identify and create sustainable employment and training opportunities for local Indigenous people in specified regions, and to implement the government’s Indigenous Employment Policy for Queensland Government Building and Civil Construction Projects (20% Policy) (PDF, 2.16 MB)
The number of IETMs was increased under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, to increase their capacity to coordinate and implement regional employment and training plans.
To do this, IETMs work closely with Indigenous Employment Training and Support officers (IETSOs), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations, government agencies (at all levels), registered training organisations, and industry.
IETMs also develop and implement regional Indigenous employment and training strategies to support local economic development and other employment and training opportunities for Indigenous people. These officers are located in areas throughout the state, including:
The department also employs three IETMs to identify and negotiate opportunities for employment and training on building and civil construction projects. These officers are based in Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns.
